Walberswick 19th May ’24

Meet outside the 'Sailors Reading Room'

Join me as I host my monthly one day Suffolk Photography Course with a one day Walberswick photo workshop, on the beautiful ‘Suffolk Heritage Coast’. Walberswick, the once fishing village inhabited by Charles Rennie Macintosh and visited by Phillip Wilson Steer and JMW Turner, is our location. My Walberswick photo workshop is designed to introduce and develop both beginners and intermediates to the next levels of photography. The day will include photography advice for everybody wanting to improve their basic photographic knowledge. The ‘Walberswick photo workshop’ is tuned to developing your creative eye. How to make the ordinary extraordinary and occasionally even the ugly, beautiful. How to develop an understanding of light, when to use hard light and when soft light. Once you are developing a feel for the aesthetics, I will guide you towards taking fuller control of your camera. For those working with 'Smart-phone' technology, we will concentrate more on the aesthetic decision making process and composition. Student feedback Steve Brown of Woodbridge said of my Walberswick photography workshop: “Booked on the one day Suffolk photography course that was very well put together. Found myself getting much more out of my camera throughout a lively and relaxing day, inside and outside, on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. A manual Read more ...

Aldeburgh 14th July ’24

Join me as I host a one day Aldeburgh Photography Course workshop, on the beautiful ‘Suffolk Heritage Coast’. Aldeburgh, with it’s links to the arts and culture, through the notable ghost of Benjamin Britten, is our location. My Aldeburgh photography course is designed to introduce and develop both beginners and intermediates to the next levels of photography. Jonathan Dayman, Colchester said: “A super day with Roland. I’m a semi-professional photographer and I still learned some very useful things – and it made me re-think how I approach my photography. He’s very knowledgeable and puts it all across in an easy to understand way – the elements of what makes for a good photograph, together with the technical aspects of how a camera produces them. Overall, recommended, especially if you are a relative novice and simply want to take better photographs. For you, this is pretty much ideal.” Carly Barker, Stowmarket Suffolk said: “I attended a day course with Roland after I had been given a Canon EOS 80D for my birthday. Having had no photography training, I was completely outside of my comfort zone when I attended the course. However, any nerves I had were very quickly laid to rest when Roland welcomed Read more ...

The lovely town of Woodbridge set slightly inland on the banks of the River Deben, is our location. My Woodbridge photography course is designed to introduce and develop both beginners and intermediates to the next levels of photography. Why I am well qualified to teach I very feel fortunate in having gained exemplary teaching experience, and have used this to structure my Norwich photography course. I have regularly lectured at Saint Martins School of Art (London), London College of Communication and Norwich School of Art. This, together with having worked for some of the Uk’s most iconic organisations, has helped build and define my career. It has also been a source of inspiration for me, in developing my Italian Photography Course Holidays. Amongst many influential clients, I have been commissioned by the BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Design Council the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A Museum. Anthony London, Sudbury said of my Woodbridge photography course: “Would just like to say a big thank you for yesterday, the course was very informative with the perfect balance of classwork to hands on photography, I gained valuable knowledge with your Read more ...
