Transportation 1st Dec ’24

December 1 @ 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

£125.00
Transport photography course

Join me as I host my one day London transport photography workshop, meeting on the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral. My London photography workshops, introduce and develop both beginners and intermediates to the next levels of creative photography. Following an introductory presentation, I will work on the development of your observational photo skills on location. After this, there will be a feedback critique of your photographs to consolidate your understanding. The afternoon session will start with a simple presentation, demonstrating the creative benefits of setting up your camera beyond ‘Auto’. For those working with ‘Smart-phone’ technology, we will concentrate more on the aesthetic decision making process as well as composition. The London transport photography workshop will include local transport subjects, as well as bus, bike and car transport.

London transport origins
The London Underground is the world’s first such system and has its origins in the Metropolitan Railway, the world’s first underground passenger railway. Opened in January 1863, it is now part of the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. The first line to operate London underground electric traction trains happened in 1890 and now collectively handles up to 5 million passengers a day. ‘London Passenger Transport Board’ was a prominent patron of art and design, commissioning many new station buildings, posters and public artworks in a modernist style. Harry Beck’s schematic tube map (1931) set the style for global emulation and was voted a national design icon in 2006. Being so ubiquitous, we rather take the London Transport ‘track/tunnel’ symbolism for granted, but what a great piece of graphic design it is! And all created by Edward Johnston in 1916 along with the Johnston typeface.

Why I am well qualified to teach
I feel very fortunate in having gained exemplary teaching experience, and have used this to structure my Photography course London. I have regularly lectured at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts; London), London College of Communication and Norwich University of the Arts. This, together with having worked for some of the Uk’s most iconic organisations, has helped build and define my career. It has also been a source of inspiration for me, in developing my Italian Photography Course Holidays. Amongst many influential clients, I have been commissioned by the BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Design Council the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A MuseumIn my earliest post student times I worked for Sir Terence Conran’s design group; J. Walter Thompson agency and Chris Dorling and Peter Kindersley the precursors of ‘Dorling Kindersley’ Publishers. Additionally I am a ‘Getty’ selected photographer.

Anthony London, Sudbury said: “Would just like to say a big thank you for yesterday, the course was very informative with the perfect balance of classwork to hands on photography, I gained valuable knowledge with your guidance and very patient help, even learned how to use the camera a little more which will aid maybe some good to average photos in the future. The class size was perfect with a really good bunch of people, enjoyed very much. Thank you so much.”

Jerome Tassell, Hadleigh said: “. . . and it was a great day. Learnt a lot. Can’t wait to put all I learnt to the test. Thank you so much.”
